Hi Mi Fans!
Hope you are well. Today I’ll be discussing a new feature introduced in Android 10 based MiUi system settings. One of the big new features of Android 10 update, which is now mostly live on all devices and a growing list of other Android phones, is Dark Mode. The dark mode is the mode for your whole device that flips the color palette of all menus and nearly every native Google apps along with other third-party apps. It is expected that the list of supported apps to expand over time too. Google claims Dark mode can reduce power usage by a significant amount, depending on the screen tech of the device you’re using. Google also says Dark Theme improves visibility for users who are sensitive to bright light or those with low vision. Lastly, some users simply prefer a darker look for their phone, and so might opt to have it running all the time.

But the real challenge is that, for every third-party app; the dark mode is not available and also not compatible with basic Google architecture. Hence to resolve the limit; Xiaomi has developed a feature called “Override Force Dark Mode” for users.

Please Follow Along:

  • Head on to Settings
  • Tap on Additional Settings

*Please note that you must have the developer options enabled beforehand. If not, please tap on the build number 7 times to enable it.

Now that you have done that, tap on Override Force Dark to enable it. This feature forces every application to be in dark mode even if the app doesn't support the feature natively. This is a simple solution to the annoyances regarding compatibility while using dark mode on your device.

The above-shown screenshots clearly show how the feature works. Facebook, unlike Messenger, doesn't support dark mode natively but using this feature makes it possible even if your app is a little old-school.

Currently, this feature is available on Redmi K20 Pro & limited Redmi as well as Mi devices with the latest updated MIUI based on Android 10.
